Board Approved Easement Request for District-Owned Land in Morgan Ridge

The Board of Education approved a request from the Metropolitan Utilities District for a small permanent water main easement on district-owned land in the Morgan Ridge development. This site, located along Rainwood Road between 156th and 168th Street, is planned for a future elementary school. Severe Weather Reminders

As we enter the spring & summer months and severe weather can affect the school day, below are reminders of the District practices and procedures with weather watches and warnings.

In the event of severe weather including watches and warnings, the District defers to the National Weather Service as the authority in activating weather watches and warnings and implements the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). During severe weather, the District will plan for the following:

Thunderstorm Watch or Tornado Watch
  • School will continue as normal.
  • Recess will be determined using discretion of direct impact.
  • Students will be released at regular dismissal.
Thunderstorm Warning
  • School will continue as normal indoors.
  • No outside recess.
  • Students will be released using discretion of direct impact.
Tornado Warning
  • Students and staff would follow the SRP and shelter in place.
  • Students would not be released until the tornado warning has been lifted and conditions are deemed safe.
  • Any changes to this plan due to the duration of the tornado warning will be communicated via the ParentSquare system through emails and text messages.

As the parent/guardian it is your choice if you wish to pick-up your student(s) prior to the regular dismissal time, but please remember to check-in with the school office. For students who ride the bus, please keep in mind drop off times may be delayed depending on the timing of the storm watch/warning. Any activity related announcements will be communicated through coaches and on social media.

Preschool Students Welcome Special Guest Speaker

Our preschool students have been learning about buildings and how they are cared for, and recently had the opportunity to hear from a special guest.

Mr. Dale from our maintenance team visited to talk with students about the tools he uses and the important work he does to keep our building running smoothly.

Students enjoyed this hands on experience and were able to connect their learning to real life while gaining a better understanding of the people who help take care of their school.

Stratford Students Prepare for Math NSCAS

Students at Stratford Elementary recently reviewed for the Math NSCAS in a hands on and engaging way using a large Nebraska map.

Using a special ruler, students measured different counties across the map to calculate area and perimeter. This interactive activity helped bring math concepts to life while reinforcing important skills in a fun and meaningful way. #WeAreBPS

Grading Scale Update

Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, Bennington Public Schools will transition from a 7-point grading scale to a 10-point grading scale.

This change comes after a thorough review of grading practices in surrounding districts, college admissions considerations, and feedback from staff, students, and families. Many area schools already use a 10-point scale, and colleges primarily focus on GPA when reviewing applications.

It’s important to note that this update will not change curriculum, expectations, or the level of rigor in our classrooms. Grades earned before fall 2026 will remain on the current 7-point scale.
